February Sunrise by Kent Lorentzen

This morning’s dawn sky had pretty colors, so I grabbed the camera and went out to capture some photos of the pre-sunrise sky.

Here’s one that that’s not too bad:

I took this from the road in front of my house looking across the Mississippi river at the pine trees on the East bank. The river is completely frozen over and snow covered after the cold weather. You can see some snowmobile tracks on the river and there are a bunch of animal tracks too. Deer, fox, wolves, and whatnot.

Looked out this morning and there were some nice red colors just before sunrise. Grabbed the camera and a tripod, popped out the door and set up. It was 5 degrees below zero, didn’t grab a jacket, hat, or mittens, as it was just outside the door and only gonna be for a moment at a time…

Took a few pics. Decided a jacket and hat would feel good. Hands were still cool, but can’t work the camera with mittens on. Did learn, while moving, that an aluminum tripod and bare hands in below zero temps aren’t a good combination.

Here are a couple of the pics:

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year filled with joy and good cheer!

Here’s a photo showing the dawn of the new year. It was 3 degrees below zero and I didn’t spend too much time taking the photo of the sunrise across the Mississippi river.

May you all enjoy the coming year as much as Raven (my dog) and I enjoyed the dawn of the new year!
